How to Calculate Attendance Percentage
Four simple steps to check your attendance, find your bunk limit, or plan recovery before exams.
Enter Total Classes Held
Type the total lectures or practicals conducted this semester. Check your college portal or ask your class representative.
Enter Classes Attended
Enter only the classes you personally attended. Find this in your attendance register or student portal.
Set Your Minimum %
Choose 75% for UGC, AICTE, and CBSE. Select a higher value if your college or university enforces 80% or 85%.
Read Instant Results
See your current attendance %, status, exact safe bunks remaining, and how many classes to attend to recover.
Attendance Percentage Formulas Explained
All three calculators above use these exact formulas. Understanding them lets you plan your semester without surprises.
(57 ÷ 76) × 100 = 75.0% — exactly at the UGC minimum.
⌊ (6400 − 6000) ÷ 75 ⌋ = ⌊ 400 ÷ 75 ⌋ = 5 safe bunks. Bunking a 6th class drops you to 74.4% — below the limit.
⌈ (6000 − 5200) ÷ 25 ⌉ = ⌈ 32 ⌉ = 32 consecutive classes needed to reach 75%.

Frequently Asked Questions
Example: Your college held 76 classes this semester and you attended 57 of them —
(57 ÷ 76) × 100 = 75.0%Use the Attendance % tab above to skip the calculation entirely. Just enter your numbers and get an instant result with colour-coded status.
Some IITs, NITs, and top private universities enforce 80–85%. Always verify the exact rule in your institution’s academic calendar or student handbook.
Example: 64 attended, 80 total, 75% target —
⌊ (6400 − 6000) ÷ 75 ⌋ = 5 safe bunksAfter 5 bunks your attendance becomes 64/85 = 75.3% — still just above the limit. A 6th bunk takes you to 74.4%, which is below 75%.
Use the Bunk Counter tab above for your exact live bunk limit.
The formula:
⌈ (Target% × New Total − Attended × 100) ÷ 100 ⌉ where New Total = current total + upcoming classes. If even attending every remaining class is not enough (the Recovery Planner will flag this clearly), speak with your faculty advisor about a formal condonation application or medical relaxation.
1. Debarment from semester examinations — the most common and immediate consequence
2. Academic detention or year back — you may be required to repeat the entire semester or year
3. Loss of scholarships and merit-based benefits
4. Visa implications for international students enrolled in India
5. Placement and internship restrictions at many reputed institutions
In some colleges, students between 65–75% may apply for condonation by submitting a written appeal to the Principal. Approval is at the institution’s discretion and not guaranteed.
The mistake many students make: they assume they have “1 free bunk per 4 classes” each week and stop tracking the total. By mid-semester they discover they are already in the danger zone. Use the Bunk Counter above to track your real-time bunk limit as the semester progresses — not just at the start.
• A valid certificate from a registered doctor (government hospital certificates carry more weight)
• Submission within the deadline specified by your institution
• Formal approval from the Principal, Dean, or Academic Committee
This relaxation is not automatic. It is discretionary and varies by institution. Many colleges also hold a formal Condonation Committee meeting — appearing in person (where applicable) significantly improves approval chances.
(Attended ÷ Total) × 100 is universal — it works for any institution, board, or country. Set the target % to match your institution’s requirement.• CBSE / ICSE / State Board schools → 75%
• Engineering (AICTE) → 75%
• Medical (NMC) → 75% (theory and practicals calculated separately)
• IIT / NIT → 75–80% (check your institute’s academic norms)
• Private universities → 75–85% (set custom target in the calculator)
